After qualifying 10th on Thursday, the #94 team was ready to get after day 1 of the Best-In-The-Desert 2 day Bluewater Desert Challenge race. The race started on a bit of a sour note when improper staging put the Strobel truck leaving the starting line on Saturday’s first day of racing in the 14th starting position. Yes fans, you read that right…we LOST 4 POSITIONS before the race even started! Needless to say we were not very happy about the situation given the tight points race we’re in. Making this even more disconcerting was the very tight track, thick dust and virtual inability to pass on the small 25 mile loop that made up this particular race course.
The truck drove well and had no mechanical problems and the BFGoodrich tires had no flats over the 2 days. While it is easy to "armchair quarterback" the race after it is over we do believe we could have earned either 5 or 2 additional season points had the starting line mistakes not been made.
Onward and upward! The team is now focusing on prepping the truck to make sure it is in the optimal working order for the final Henderson 250 race. An overall win will take care of business and will complete the team’s 2011 goal of winning the BITD Trophy Truck overall season championship. Wish us luck and keep tabs on our progress with the Henderson 250 race qualifying on Thursday, December 1st with the final race of the year going off on Saturday, December 3rd. Thanks much race fans and as always Go Strobel Motorsports!
