Strobel Finishes Strong 6th Overall in 45th Baja 1000

After 1,122 miles, 8 pit stops and 4 driver changes the Strobel Motorsports #94 Trophy Truck team moved up from their 15th starting position to claim the 6th place finish in the 2012 Baja 1000. The team had an elapsed time of 20 hours, 39 minutes, 5 seconds – a mere 40 seconds behind the 5th place truck and only 1 minute and 19 seconds out of the 4th place spot. This strong peninsula run also awards the team a solid 4th place in the premier SCORE Trophy Truck class points standings for the 2012 season. Additionally driver Steve Strobel is one of only 5 Trophy Truck drivers to complete every mile of the SCORE series races to capture the coveted Toyota Ironman award.

"Super Bowl" of off-road racing - The Baja 1000 Prerunning Is Underway

The initial prerunning of the grand-daddy of all off-road races has been in progress for a week now.  Adding to the challenge and complexity Hurricane Paul strafed the center of the Baja peninsula creating some localized flooding and washing out some roads as well as many points on the race course.

More prerunning will continue the first week in November with all 3 driver/co-driver teams heading back down to complete their "homework" and marking the course.

Baja 500 Prerunning Winding Down

Chase 4 Build Nearing Completion

The Strobel Motorsports team is well into the final stages of building our "Chase 4" transporter / tow vehicle. This unit is specifically designed to tow the race truck or prerunner into Baja with enough spare equipment, tools, etc. but with a smaller profile than our existing team transporter to better maneuver the highways and conditions on the Baja peninsula. This will be a great addition to the support fleet and will strategically help in Mexico races going forward, starting with this year's SCORE Baja 500. Take a look at more pictures/slideshow here.

NEW San Felipe 250 Race Video

Top 10 Overall in San Felipe Keeps Team 3rd In Points Chase

With 3 of the 5 SCORE races completed in the 2012 season the Strobel Motorsports team continues to be in a very strong 3rd place position in the premier Trophy Truck class.  The race truck performed flawlessly with no mechanical issues and only 1 flat tire at Race Mile 232 of the 249 on the map.  Sal Fish and his SCORE team definitely put together a rugged race course full of the infamous "San Felipe Woops".  However, when all the sand settled after 4 hours and 49 minutes the driver Steve Strobel and co-driver JT Tondro finished 7 in a strong field of Trophy Trucks which again leaves the team 3rd in Trophy Truck points going into the legendary Baja 500 in early June.  Check out the team's website for a full photo album with videos coming soon.

Mantenemos en la Tercera Posición

A Todos los fans de Strobel Motorsports en México, queremos expresar  nuestro más sincero agradecimiento  por el gran apoyo que de ustedes recibimos durante  este pasado fin de semana,  en  la carrera de SCORE San Felipe 250,  donde  nos encontramos y pudimos saludar a un gran número de buenos amigos, y estamos profundamente agradecidos por todas sus invaluables  atenciones en esta visita a Baja California. Nuestro equipo finalizo en la séptima  posición en clase Trophy Truck  y Novena posición,  por lo que nos mantenemos en la tercera posición en puntos del serial de la clase Trophy Truck de esa temporada de SCORE 2012. Además  con esto estamos aseguramos salir dentro de los diez primeros lugares en la Baja 500, la posición final dentro de estos  lugares dependerá del sorteo previo , con esto falta por disfrutar aún más emociones para Strobel Motorsports en Baja California. They have finished the race and the truck looked great coming across the finish line. Unofficially looks like a 7th place finish in class and 9th overall.

Thru RM30 all good. Missed the early trucks but of trucks we saw 94 was 7th on road

Race Update

To everyone not in Mexico for the race ~ we learned last night that there will NOT be any tracking ability from IonEarth for this race for us or any racers in Mexico. The only way to track the truck will be through racetheworld.net which is IRC tracking and I will also update the blog as I get updates from the pits.

Race starts at Noon (central time) tomorrow. Word from Mexico is that pre-running has gone good but it is a very rough course. Today's agenda for the team is Tech and Contingency.

SCORE San Felipe 250 Launches Sat 10am PT

Chase crews are heading south of the border and will be doing a LOT of prerunning the SCORE San Felipe 250 course this entire week. Stay tuned for updates. Team is 3rd in points after 2 of the 5 race SCORE series completed with race 3 this Sat., 3/10 starting at 10am PT in the tranquil fishing village of San Felipe Baja Mexico.

San Felipe Testing Went Well

The race team is now back in the US after spending several days in beautiful San  Felipe Mexico testing some new technology and continuing to dial in the race truck in preparation for the upcoming SCORE San Felipe 250 on March 10th.

Steve Strobel is sitting third in SCORE Trophy Truck season points chase with 2 of the 5 races in the books.  Steve & JT will start 19th off the line when the green flag drops under the historic San Felipe arches at 10:00am PT Sat., 3/10.

Laughlin Day 2 VIDEO - 3rd Place Run!

Another great video piece from Turn2TV highlighting all the great SCORE Laughlin Day 2 action for the #94 truck. Some incredible shots of the Strobel Motorsports #94 Ford F-150 Schaeffer Manufacturing truck flying over some of the tough Laughlin jumps as well as some great footage of the battle with Rob Mac! The team is feeling very good about a 4th place round 1 and a 3rd place round 2 and sitting likely 3rd in SCORE season TT points. Enjoy the excellent clip!

3rd Place Laughlin Day 2!

Steve Strobel finished unofficially in 3rd place during the Laughlin Challenge day 2 action.  Great run again today and while we probably didn't have anything to catch Rob Mac today, we were very clase to 2nd Place.  Now on to San Felipe in early March for the next SCORE event.

Ready For Laughlin Day 2

The big #94 Ford F-150 Schaeffer Manufacturing race truck is prepped and ready to charge through the Laughlin off-road course today starting at 1:00 PT.  Steve felt like the truck performed really well yesterday although a few minor adjustments were made for race setup today.  We'll post day 2 results as soon as we can.   Keep the positive energy flowing today!

Race Truck Ready and In the Pit at Laughlin

First Race of 2012 Season This Weekend

The first race for the 2012 off-road season goes off this weekend with the #94 Strobel Motorsports Trophy Truck taking on the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in Laughlin NV. This race will be 2 short 48 mile races, 1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday to determine the early SCORE race series favorites. Qualifying happens 2pm PT Friday afternoon with the Trophy Truck races set to start at 1pm PT both Saturday and Sunday. Wish us luck and watch closely this weekend to see how the team fares for the first epic event of the 2012 racing season as we chase the SCORE-International trophy truck championship!!!
